High School

High School at NEJA: Preparing Leaders with Purpose

NEJA’s High School offers a comprehensive, college-preparatory education rooted in timeless Jewish values. We empower students to think deeply, act ethically, and pursue lives of purpose and impact. Through a dual curriculum of rigorous General and Judaic studies, students are challenged to explore big ideas, ask meaningful questions, and discover their personal passions.

Our high schoolers engage in a wide range of academic subjects while also delving into Torah, Talmud, Jewish history, and Hebrew language. We meet students where they are in their Judaic learning journey and place them in the appropriate level to ensure both motivation and inspiration. Elective courses and specialized tracks allow students to personalize their schedules and dive deeper into areas of interest.

With small classes, individualized guidance, and a supportive community, NEJA students graduate with the knowledge, confidence, and character to succeed in college and beyond—to lead lives of integrity and impact in the wider world.

Students take courses in both General and Jewish subjects as well as electives in areas of interest.

High School Curriculum

Math

High school offers a full range of courses, including Algebra I & II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, and Calculus, with opportunities for remediation or acceleration. Instruction emphasizes conceptual understanding, real-world application, and preparation for college entrance exams. Students learn to communicate their reasoning and tackle complex problems.

English

Students develop advanced skills in literary analysis, research, and academic writing. The curriculum includes American and British literature, world texts, and independent reading. Emphasis is placed on clarity, voice, and argumentation, preparing students for college-level communication and critical thinking.

Science

Courses in Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics include hands-on labs, theoretical instruction, and real-world application. Students learn scientific inquiry, data analysis, and lab reporting skills. Electives or advanced placement options are offered to deepen interest and prepare for college majors.

History

Students explore modern and classical history, from the U.S. government to world wars and Jewish history. Emphasis is placed on evaluating primary sources, writing research papers, and understanding historical impact. These skills prepare students to engage as informed citizens and thoughtful scholars.

Talmud

Students study advanced sugyot and refine their skills in independent learning and chavruta-style study. Emphasis is placed on understanding the flow of Talmudic debate, identifying halachic implications, and exploring ethical questions. Students build confidence in interpreting primary texts and participating in deep discussions, preparing them for lifelong engagement with Torah learning.

Halacha

High school students explore complex halachic topics using classical sources and contemporary responsa. Lessons focus on the development of law, diverse opinions, and real-life applications. Students are challenged to think critically and ethically about Jewish law and its relevance to modern dilemmas.

Navi

Students engage with texts such as Sefer Yirmiyahu, Shmuel, or Melachim, analyzing prophecy, politics, and personal responsibility. The curriculum emphasizes literary analysis, moral leadership, and historical relevance. Building on middle school skills, students make connections between biblical themes and contemporary challenges.

Chumash

In-depth study of Torah passages is paired with commentaries such as Rashi, Ramban, and modern thinkers. Students explore themes of leadership, covenant, justice, and personal growth. Classes emphasize close reading, textual inference, and thoughtful discussion, encouraging ownership of Torah learning.

Electives

In High School students have the opportunity to choose from electives such as robotics, engineering, art, and music. They have the freedom to choose a path that interests them and gain knowledge of more relevant fields for them. Elective options are Art, Coding, Creative Writing, Intro to Psych, SAT Math, Robotics, Advanced Tanach and Sports. If there is student interest in a different elective, they have the option to advocate for it.

Clubs

At NEJA, student clubs bring energy and creativity to campus life! Each year, club offerings reflect the unique interests of our students. Clubs include Chess, Model UN, Film Production, Fitness Club, Board & Card Games, Music, 3D Printing, Drama, Art, and more. Our clubs are student-driven and faculty-supported, offering a chance to explore passions, develop skills, and have fun with friends. Have an idea for a new club? Students are always welcome to start one—just find a faculty advisor and a group of interested peers!
