High School Students help out at local Foodshare

Earlier this week, 12 of our high schoolers worked together like a well trained team at FoodShare, sorting, inspecting, labeling, and packaging over 6,503 pounds of food for delivery to local food pantries all over the region. They accomplished a great deal in a short amount of time. Feeding the hungry is one of the most basic and important mitzvot in Jewish life, but we don’t often have the opportunity to do so. This hands-on activity allowed our students to actively participate in fulfilling this mitzvot and left everyone feeling elevated with joy.

Reuse, Reduce, Recycle – Upper School Community Project

NEJA seniors Nochum Levitan, Shoshana Olkin, and Brian Silberman are launching a Recycling program at the Upper Division! The project was initiated in Mr. Page’s English class when students were asked to create a Community Service project. At an assembly on Wednesday, these students stunned their classmates with statistics regarding waste, and introduced easy ways we at NEJA can do our part to reduce the 254 million tons of garbage generated in our country each year. Plans to expand the recycling program include the introduction of a compost program in the spring!
